Microsoft has released Security Bulletin MS14-021 that addresses the
issues raised with Microsoft Security
Advisory 2963983. MS has also decided to release the security update for
Windows XP even though it is out of support.
Anyway so I go along and install this update to a bunch of machines after testing it first. Everything seemed fine until today when I started getting this error in my users Groupwise mailbox whenever they try and open an e-mail.
Anyway to cut a long story short I eventually discovered that its not really so much a Groupwise issue but an Internet Explorer issue. The immediate work around was obviously to uninstall patch KB2964358 and Voila! but that was not the long term fix.
I've seen many on the web that do not install or check that they have the pre-requisite cumulaitve security updates installed first before appying patch KB2964358.
The simple resolution for me was tosimply install the cumulative security update KB2925418 which can be found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925418/en-us and KB2929437 for IE11/Win7
You also want to check on MS14-018. It is VERY important that you have these updates installed BEFORE you apply KB2964358. Failing to do so will surely result in the update KB2964358 causing issues resulting in Internet Explorer not rendering the web page but trying to download it instead.
